Braces or Appliances are used to move teeth.

 

Braces can be removable i.e. the patient can remove them from the mouth for eating and cleaning and sometimes also for sports, or they can be fixed (metal or ceramic, lingual) in the mouth and only be removed by the orthodontist when they are no longer needed. Sometimes treatment will require both removable and fixed appliances.
