Removable appliances are removed to clean the teeth and the appliance. Sometimes Dr Gibilaro will instruct you to wear the appliance when eating. Some appliances such as functional appliances are removed when eating.

The appliance can be cleaned with either a tooth brush and tooth paste or a small nail brush that you keep just for cleaning the appliance. The appliance must be cleaned very well twice per day. Every two weeks it can be soaked in a denture cleaning solution for 5 minutes.
