Functional Appliances

A functional appliance is a brace used in growing children to guide and redirect the jaws and teeth.

Functional appliances are usually removable (i.e. the patient can removed it for cleaning, eating and sports).

The ‘Twin Block’ functional appliance is the type usually used by Dr. Gibilaro as the evidence shows that it is well tolerated and very effective in correcting a retruded lower jaw and protruding upper teeth.
